Spots

If you don't have to read this, how lucky you are. Trinny envies you. But the bottom line is that most women have spots at some time or another.

Trinny suffered from years of acne before she discovered her long-term solution. If you suffer like she did, you too might be looking for help. For others, with spots caused by stress, periods or over-eating of chocolate, there are easier ways of dealing with the problem. Although dermatologists will tell you that spots have little to do with what you eat, how many of you have had a chocolate binge only to discover a couple of unwanted red throbbers the next day?

Toothpaste can be a great emergency fixer as it will dry out the spot. Just make sure you are sleeping alone that night or your partner has already started snoring.

Drinking lots of water will flush out toxins and does help your skin. There are also great products out there that contain salacylic acid. Eve Lom's Dynaspot is one example.

Good concealers can totally cover up the problem. (We often recommend Laura Mercier's Secret Camouflage.) Just remember, we have nearly all been there and if you don't want lasting memories of those spots on your face, don't pick. You will regret it.

For spot control, toothpaste, any brand, is always to hand.

Cellulite

It's fat. Nothing else. Your long-term enemy that just doesn't budge. Desperate for the ultimate cure, we all read the magazine articles. It's not there yet, but certain treatments help.

Let's start with the diet. It's a documented fact that certain foods and drinks will aid and abet the development of cellulite. Avoid all caffeine, fizzy drinks, buttery croissants and pastry, and drink, drink, drink, water, water, water, flush, flush, flush.

Good circulation is the enemy of cellulite, so first thing in the morning when your body is sluggish, before you have a shower, wake it up with a body brush. From your fingers and toes to your heart, brush in one direction waking up your circulation along the way. Get in the shower, and if you can bear it, switch from hot to cold water to continue the process. Once in the shower, slap on one of the body scrub products that contain menthol to stimulate the nerve endings or seaweed to detox the system.

After the shower, yet more products are available that continue the process (Trinny rates Thalgo). The success of this system depends on your discipline to continue doing it daily.

If you are a bit lazy, and not too strapped for cash, go for a treatment like Endermologie or Mesotherapy. These are more penetrating than anything you can do at home.

The first step, the body brush and water.
