Why is it that everything that's bad for you is always so much cheaper?

Her life, although filled with family, is also quite solitary.  Crosswords in The Sun, bingo by herself, followed by a Chinese all you can eat for 4.90. That was our day, and then back to the house for a smoke up in the kitchen with her son David and his 3 of his 5 girls, baby boy and wife.  I went to bed feeling shattered, having smoked too much and eaten too many sweet things.

My diet today had consisted of:
3 pieces of toast with marmite
Cup of tea
1 custard tart
Cup of tea
Chinese spare ribs, deep friend onion rings, deep-fried potatoes
Sweet and sour sauce over everything.
No vegetables
Strawberry jelly with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
Cup of tea
8 cigarettes
Cup of tea
(Sneaked in Pr t a Manger bar of oats and nuts and honey - delicious...). 

I had not eaten like this for 15 years, and last did at a halfway house in Weston-super-mere after rehab.
